Shark diving, or cage diving, allows divers, researchers and film crews to view the extraordinary world of Great White Sharks in comfort and safety. Specially designed shark viewing cages provide adequate protection for the sharks from sport divers, while allowing divers total freedom of movement and panoramic views.
Shark diving is unique in the fact that the rewards often far exceed the effort both physically and mentally. Not to say that shark diving is not challenging, getting in the water with up to five Great Whites, or one 35 foot Whale Shark is very challenging and very exciting to say the least! Shark diving with us requires less equipment to bring along, and only minimal equipment is needed to dive in cages. For instance, because surface supplied air is used at Isla Guadalupe, no tank is required to be worn in the cage or while climbing in and out of the water leaving more room in the cage.
The shark diving crews are industry professionals who care about your safety and enjoyment. In the world of cage diving with Great Whites you can either go where everyone has been before, or discover a newer and better world.
Experience one, or all three, of these incredible shark diving adventures:
The Farallons
Great white sharks are closer than you think! This one-day Shark Dive departs from San Francisco, California and takes you to the Gulf of the Farallons National Marine Sanctuary. In the fall, thousands of marine mammals congregate on this rocky promontory to breed and calve their young. This event attracts the largest White Sharks in the world to South East Farallon Island (SEFI), where they feed on Elephant Seals before their long trans-Pacific migration. You will experience many dramatic encounters with White Sharks.
Isla Guadalupe
Be among the first to discover the world's most exciting new white shark dive site. Isla Guadalupe is located off the coast of Mexico. On this Shark Adventure, you'll spend five days living at sea. Isla Guadalupe is rapidly becoming the World's Best Destination to dive with Great White Sharks. It hosts one of the most prolific populations of White Sharks on the planet. What makes Isla Guadalupe the greatest White Shark diving destination is not only the abundance of White Sharks, but the water you will find them in! The temperature averages 65 to 70 degrees F. It is simply Shark Diver Heaven!
False Bay (Cape Town)
Shark dives depart from the scenic village of Simon's Town and are led by a professional shark photographer and experienced researcher. Dive for one day or dive for ten. Cage diving with the Great White Shark is a relatively new adventure sport in South Africa. Great White Shark diving is the marine equivalent of seeing the Mountain Gorilla in its natural environment. It's exciting, adventurous and a truly unique opportunity to spend some one-on-one time with a magnificent animal.
Gansbaai (South Africa)
Cage diving is incredible in the area near Dyer's Island better known as Shark Alley. You don't have to be a diver to see great action. Known as the Great White Shark diving capital of the world, the stretch of water between Gansbaai and Dyer Island is also referred to as "shark alley". Gansbaai is 100 miles from Cape Town, about a 2 hour drive by car. Gansbaai is also just half an hour drive away from Hermanus which is South Africa's best spot for whale-watching.
